Suukti is a private, on-device dictation app for macOS: press a shortcut, speak, and your words appear as finished text in whatever app you're using. Everything runs on your Mac.

Getting started

  1. Open Suukti. On first launch it opens Settings and shows a short readiness checklist.
  2. Grant Microphone when asked — Suukti needs it to hear you (audio never leaves your Mac).
  3. Grant Accessibility — open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Accessibility and turn Suukti on. This lets Suukti type your text into other apps. (Suukti will finish setting up on its own once you grant this.)
  4. Pick a shortcut (or use the default) in Settings ▸ Shortcuts.
  5. Click into any text field, press your shortcut, speak, and press it again. Your text appears at the cursor.

Troubleshooting

"My text isn't being pasted into the app"

This is almost always one of two things:

  1. Accessibility isn't granted (or needs a moment). Open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Accessibility and make sure Suukti is listed and turned on. If you just turned it on, Suukti finishes applying it automatically. If you updated or reinstalled Suukti, remove any old "Suukti" entry (select it, click –) and add the current app again.
  2. "Secure input" is blocking it. macOS has a system-wide setting called Secure Event Input that blocks apps from typing for you. It turns on when a password field is focused, or by apps like 1Password or a terminal with "Secure Keyboard Entry." When it's active, Suukti can't paste — but your text is safe on the clipboard, and Suukti tells you so. Just press ⌘V to paste it. To fix it for good: click away from any password field, quit your password manager if it's holding it, and turn off "Secure Keyboard Entry" in Terminal/iTerm if you use one. If it stays stuck, log out and back in clears it.

"It's stuck downloading on first launch"

The first time you run Suukti, it downloads its speech models (about 1 GB) — this needs an internet connection once. A progress bar shows how it's going. After that, Suukti works fully offline. If you're offline, connect and it will retry.

"Cleanup / formatting isn't working"

The optional cleanup and formatting features use Apple Intelligence, which requires macOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence turned on. Core dictation works without it — the Status checklist in Settings shows whether it's available. You can turn cleanup off entirely in Settings.

"The keyboard shortcut isn't working"

Check Settings ▸ Shortcuts and set a shortcut you can press. The default is ⌘1 (start/stop) and ⌘2 (hold-to-talk). You can change either to anything you like.

Your privacy

Suukti runs entirely on your Mac. Your voice and transcripts are never recorded, uploaded, or sent to us — there are no accounts and no servers that see your content. See our Privacy Policy.

A note on AI: cleanup, formatting, and generated text are produced by AI and can make mistakes — please review your text before sending or using it.
